Northern Experience - Fort Chipewyan - January 2012 by Dion Beier, Hangar 39 Operations Manager, Denille Industries Ltd I did a trip up to Fort Chipewyan during the first week of January, bringing a photographer with me to take pictures of the school kids. What was supposed to be a 2 day trip turned into a 4 day long “northern experience”. From not being able to get the airplane started in the bone chilling -12 C!! (stupid fuel injected engines) to being trapped under bad weather for 2 days, it truly was a “northern experience”. We did not park the airplane close enough to power outlets to be able to plug it in. While grounded due to the weather, we looked for things to do. We decide to take an opportunity to do some substitute teaching to keep busy and make some cash on the side. After 3 days, we got a break in the weather and we were able to actually get the airplane started after finding some “outside” help. That was the best feeling in the world!!
