COPA Flight 176 formed in 2011 at Edmonton’s City Centre Airport (CYXD).
COPA Edmonton was formed in the spring of 2011 at the Edmonton City Centre Airport. Located in the heart of Alberta’s
capital city, this General Aviation airport services industry, medevac, flight training and recreational flight. The airport was
home to over 60,000 movements in 2010, down from over 80,000 in 2009 due to restrictions placed on it by the Edmonton
Regional Airports Authority.
Edmonton City Centre Airport is the subject of local controversy with a proposed closure by a city council led by a “developer”
mayor. COPA National has yet to lobby for this airport and all members of COPA flights across Canada are encouraged to
contact COPA National and demand that they put their resources into saving this historical airfield that has been part of the
aviation industry for nearly a 100 years.
Edmonton City Centre Airport also hosts the Indy Racing League each July with the Edmonton Indy being run right on the
airport lands. COPA Edmonton held its first fly-in breakfast on Indy weekend in 2011 and held a COPA for Kids event the last
weekend of August,
In 2012, COPA Edmonton is planning three events. A Rust Remover will be held in the spring, the Indy Weekend Fly-In
Breakfasts in July and COPA for Kids in August. Go to our Events page for full details. Edmonton City Centre Airport will also
be the staging airport for the 2012 Century Flight Club excursion to Yellowknife in July.
